Introducing
Social Innovation Initiative Research Teams
Generation Citizenship Project
Scott Warren and Anna Ninan
Overview:
The Generation Citizenship Project (GCP) is a recently launched Brown University program that works with high schools to create a youth that is informed of local, national and global issues and equipped to take action as engaged political citizens. The GCP recruits and trains college students to serve as mentors in high school classrooms, engaging students in the basic of the political process, discussing important public problems, and where appropriate, taking practical and effective action on local policy issues. The GCP is currently working in five Providence-based high schools, and plans to expand its operations in the near future.
Join the project!
The GCP is interested in conducting research on the overall educational importance of civic education and engagement for high school students. Specifically, we are interested in exploring whether civically-engaged teenagers make greater scholastic progress during high school and subsequently acquire higher levels of education than their otherwise similar peers. We are also interested in recent trends regarding civically minded and engaged youth.
