Fellowships & Prizes
FELLOWSHIPS
The Swearer Center offers fellowships
that fund scholarly and service projects for Brown undergraduates. From public
interest law to the intersection of sport and human rights, our fellowship
opportunities can accommodate many diverse interests and types of projects. Browse the links at the left to
learn more about the Swearer Center's fellowship support and to begin searching
for opportunities that match your skills and interests.
In addition to the fellowships offered by the Swearer Center, Brown
offers many fellowships that fund summer research, internships, graduate study,
and international and national travel and study. The Fellowships
@ Brown website offers comprehensive information about research and
fellowship opportunities funded or sponsored by Brown. It also offers
information about selected external awards that may be of interest to Brown
students.
Application to Multiple Fellowships: Applicants may apply to multiple fellowship programs for the same
project - however, they may only accept funding from one Brown University
source for the same scope of work. If an
applicant is awarded multiple university fellowships, (e.g. UTRA, Royce, Smoke,
etc.), he or she must choose which award to accept.
International Travel: If a fellowship proposal requires international travel the
applicant must agree to abide by the university's protocol and sign a contract
and waiver stating such. In the letter
of support the faculty or community sponsor must address supervision and
monitoring (frequency and duration) and discuss ‘check-in' plans (at least one
check-in over the summer in person or by phone). When notified of the award fellows must submit
emergency contact info, a travel plan and description of in-country
accommodations.

PRIZES
Each year, the Swearer Center also awards two prizes-- the Derek Canfield Barker Prize and the Yat K. Tow Prize-- to students who have distinguished themselves in their leadership, academic achievements and/or community service work. Learn more about these prizes by clicking the links at the left.
