Advising at the Swearer Center
The Swearer Center provides a range of advising support to students. We help students think about the intersection of their academic studies and community work; navigate non-profit career pathways; and get to know Providence beyond College Hill. Check out our advising programs below. If you don't find what you're looking for, please contact Amy Doyle for assistance.
For newly accepted students interested in community service, the University Community Academic Advising Program matches first year students with academic advisors who encourage them to think about the connection of academic study with work and service in the community.
For students for those interested in learning more about third sector nonprofit and social justice work, Careers in the Common Good offers:
“Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire."
- skill-building workshops for jobs and internship seekers;
- opportunities to hear from alumni and other community leaders engaged in public interest work, and to have conversations over coffee (see Community Hour, below, for this semester's schedule) about connecting your passion to your studies and to your life after Brown; and
- online resources to assist you in exploring your options.
